Boardgames are recession proof

It seems that, as some predicted, the hobby game market is recession proof and people will turn to the relatively inexpensive hobby of board and card games during tough economic times.

The hobby game market is up 20-25% over last year for the first half of this year, and last year’s early half was up the same amount (20-25%) over the year before as well.

When I say ‘Hobby Game Market’ that encompasses board games, non-collectible card games, collectible card games, RPGs, and miniature games.

However ICV2 reports that board and card games are showing growth as well:

“Board, deckbuildng, and card games are all doing well this year as well, with licenses and the Tabletop YouTube show strong drivers of sales on particular titles. Miniatures are also trending upward, with Games Workshop turning around after a rough transition to Finecast last year and Privateer growing behind its new larger miniatures.”

What are the best selling boardgames in this surging market?

  1. Glad to see 9 of the 10 games on the Top Selling Board Games. But what the heck is Redneck Life doing on this list?
